Friday Finds!

Look at these awesome oversized poufs! These are handknit by Dana's Joy, who has a variety of items similar to these. I just love the charcoal color and the nubby texture. It's 'room fashion' that is also quite functional! Stop by her shop and have a look around! Have a lovely (almost fall!) weekend!

There's No Place Like Home...

My sister, my mom, and I went to see 'Wicked' (which, by the way, is FANTASTIC - you MUST see it if you have the opportunity!). My sister is obsessed with the color red, and I suggested that she get some red shoes to wear that night. The day before, I asked if she had, and she said no. Then after getting ready to go, she came down wearing THESE to surprise me! Complete with Wicked Witch socks! When I said red shoes, I didn't think she'd find replicas of the Wizard of OZ shoes!

These fabulous shoes were made by Princess Pumps...check out the site to get a pair of your own!

Friday Finds!

I LOVE these! How many times have you thrown your piece of fruit in your lunch tote, put it in the fridge at work, and discovered that somewhere between commuting to work, and having one of your co-workers squish your lunch in the fridge that your fruit got all bruised? I think this is a clever and cute solution! So fun! These apple jackets are hand-made by jacquelineknits. Check out her shop, she has many goodies to look at. Another item that I love is this coffee cup sleeve. It's a bright happy color, and more comfy for your hands than those cardboard ones you get from your favorite coffee shop (and less waste than using those cardboard ones too - bonus!)

Friday Finds!

It's Friday Finds time! Would you look at how beautiful this 'box' is! I say 'box', because that word does not do these creations justice. This piece is brought to you by Jim Jenkins, a theatre designer/technical director-turned woodworking artist. I think he made a great 'career change'! When you stop by his store, be sure to read his profile, I got a kick out of it! I love things like this, it would make a great jewelry box, or a very handsome place to keep all of those little 'things' that you don't want to get lost in your junk drawer but that need a home. Monday Morning Treasuries on Etsy!

Here were a couple of Treasuries that I was in this morning. Made my sluggish, day-after-losing-an-hour morning a little brighter! Please check out their etsy stores too!

This first treasury is from tredlightphotographs, who has put together a really pretty collection of photographs from members of POE (Photographers Of Etsy). And the best part is that all of us have 10 sales or less, so she is trying to give our stores a little boost!

Next up is such a cute cat collection from erinbowe. Just made me smile!

Almost as good as the Slanket. Almost.

I am obsessed with my Slanket.  I have used it more than any other purchase I have made in the recent past.  Best money ever spent!  If I were someone who camped (which my hubby is trying to get me to!), I would most definitely get the Selki as my sleeping bag.  at first, I just laughed and laughed at how ridiculous the guy wearing it looked.  But then I thought, that would really be warm!  I love it!  Made me smile.

Friday Finds!

I was on the phone with my parents the other day, and we got on the topic of something that we refer to as "Dress up Dad". Fun for my mom and I, not so much for my dad! My mom was trying to find stuff to pack for him for a trip that they are taking soon, and while she was making him try on pants they came across all of my dad's ties. He is now happily retired, and pretty much only wears ties to weddings and funerals, so they were discussing what to do with all of his old ties. I said that we could make scarves, belts, camera and guitar straps. But apparently I was thinking on too small of a scale compared to the work of glamarita! The very next day I stumbled across her store on Etsy. She takes men's ties and repurposes them into evening gowns, cocktail dresses, skirts...wow! I think one of these creations would be fantastic to wear to an art show or gallery opening. People might even confuse you for part of the show! Here's my favorite...

"Transform" by Zack Arias

I came across this video post through another photographer's blog.  It looked interesting to me and the blogger said it was inspirational.  So I watched it.  I'm not going to say much about it, not because there isn't a lot to say.  Believe me there is.  I want everyone who views this video through my blog to decide for themselves what it means to them.  The guy that shot it is Zack Arias, an Atlanta-based photographer.  So, while it was geared to speak to photographers, I believe that it could mean something to designers as a whole.  I have more than one design side to me.  I'm a photographer and an architect, and this video meant something to me in both of my worlds.  So, please enjoy and relate it to your own world(s)...

**Since I can't seem to get the sound to work on this post, as it's my first time embedding a video, here is a link to his blog post with the video on it.  Usually the visual is more important to me, but this time the sound is just as important!
