Happy Valentine's Day!

I'm not gonna lie...as 'commercial' as it is, Valentine's Day is a favorite of mine! Maybe it's all the pink...or the sweets...

I saw some cookies on Pinterest, and I HAD to give them a try! Here are the results!

I took just a basic sugar cookie recipe, divided it into four, then added food coloring to each mini batch of dough.

I couldn't let the little bits of leftover dough go to waste, so I mashed it all together and got a little crazy!

Thanks to my photographer father, I have become obsessed with finding the 'perfect' camera bag! As I have discovered there is no ONE perfect bag, there are MANY perfect bags! See, it really depends on the situation...right?? :)

Here is my latest bag, the Kelly Moore Classic bag! I LOOOOVE it. What I love, is that it holds a lot of gear, but it is also pretty and 'purse'-like. There are some situations where you don't want to scream 'Hey, look at me! I'm a photographer!'. Instead, it calmly informs that you've got some serious style!

There are several colors and styles to choose from, I thought I'd get the most use out of this gorgeous grey!

It's got a fancy dust cover for when it's not in use.

Look at all of that room inside! These are my standard lenses that are always with me on a shoot, and I have no problem fitting them inside! I also love the slim profile of this bag. Who wants to feel like they are carrying bulky square luggage while walking around?? Not this girl!

I have known Kristen for years! And by years, I mean over 20!! So, when she told me that her whole family was going to be in town for the 4th of July Holiday and asked if I would take their photos....OF COURSE I said yes!!!

Meet Kristen and Tim's sweet daughter, Lizzie! She is such a happy baby!

Carrie and her husband Dan were in town from Seattle...could these two be any more fun?

You can just see in their faces how happy they are to be new parents!

Here's the whole gang! I hadn't seen Art and Sherry since we graduated from high school! They have just moved to Kansas from Iowa to be near their new little granddaughter.

By now, most of you have probably seen this heartbreaking video that has made the rounds this past week of these two poor dogs. I've heard that these two are now under the care of rescue volunteers and are getting the help that they need. Unfortunately, there are many more animals that need help after this devastating tragedy.

Right now, when you shop erin garrison design on Etsy, 100% of the proceeds from the sale of animal prints will be donated to various organizations that are helping with the animal rescue effort in Japan.

If you'd like to help out by donating to one of the organizations that are helping the animal victims of the Japan Earthquake, check out these sites, and donate to the one(s) that you feel comfortable with:

Experiment:FreeLensing

'Freelensing'. Has anyone ever heard of this? Yeah, me neither. But when I heard what it was, my curiosity got the better of me and I had to at least try it out, even though this technique screams insurance claim! You basically take the lens off of the body of your camera and hold it in place and tilt it slightly rather than locking it in place. Did I have a death grip on that lens! I also didn't want to rotate it so far that it came out of the body of the camera for fear of getting dust in there. Interesting results, but I probably won't be trying that one again!

Great Midwest Balloon Fest 2010

This past weekend my husband and I spent Friday evening at the Great Midwest Balloon Fest. This was the event's inaugural year, and I would say Friday night was a success for them! Unfortunately the Kansas weather didn't cooperate and for the most part the rest of the weekend's events had to be cancelled. We had such a great time the first night though! We arrived with enough time to see a bunch of balloons take off for an evening flight, then at sunset another round of balloons set up for a balloon glow. We will definitely be back next year! Enjoy!

Despite the excessive rain in the beginning and the extreme hot and dry the rest of the time, I definitely enjoyed my first season paying attention to what I was eating in the summer!

Miss Lauren is 6 months old! Wow, this time has gone by fast! We really lucked out today...after almost 2 straight weeks of temps over 100 (and the heat index was above 110!), we finally had a break in the heat and ended up with a very pleasant morning to photograph this pretty little lady!

We made it, it's Friday! Today's find is this great ceramic travel mug, beautifully handmade by A Piece By Denise. This is a great eco-friendly alternative to using those disposable cups you find at the office or at your favorite to-go coffee house! They are microwave and dishwasher (yay!) safe, and fits in your car's cupholder! Check out her shop for more mugs and other ceramic items! Have a great weekend!

It was a very wet 4th of July, but that didn't stop us from getting to see a great fireworks show! We huddled under an umbrella, and 'ooooo-ed' and 'ahhhhh-ed' over these:

You can actually see the rain highlighted by the explosions...made them look like they were dripping!

Today's Find is Three Tall and Tiny Terrariums by Tortoise Loves Donkey! Check out her shop for all sort of terrariums, in many different shapes and sizes. This particular set features a succulent plant in each of the 3 tiny vessels. And here's a bonus, the plants are organically grown in her sunny state of California! Just lovely!

My husband is a funny, funny guy. I open up my computer and see my pretty website, with a big slab of bacon across it, open and waiting for me! Have you seen this yet? It's Friday! Today's Friday Finds is this great vintage-inspired print from Keep Calm Shop! I've seen a lot of versions of this on blogs and on t-shirts, and while I loved what they all said I didn't know where these phrases came from! So I did a little searching on the interwebs, and discovered that the original was 'Keep Calm and Carry On', and was on a propaganda poster produced by the British government. Ok, back to Keep Calm Shop! This husband/wife team has many different options in their shop, this particular print spoke to me! Can't imagine why! ;) These are meant to inspire us to keep doing the things we love to do! I think I will 'Snap On'! Have a weekend full of doing the things you love!

Monday Etsy Treasuries!

Wow! It's a day full of treasuries! Today, my work was featured in THREE different treasuries!

First up, is a treasury filled with items that made Gift Designs think of dreamy Sundays, and features my 'Roman Farmer's Market', which was one of my favorite Sunday activities when I was living in Rome!

Next, we have this treasury titled 'English or French' and had me laughing out loud when I saw it! It was put together by Renata & Jonathan and features TWO of my prints, 'Chillaxin' and 'Peeking Dog'. As you can tell, I'm team 'English'!

And finally, this very hip 'Urban Perspective' treasury! This one is a collection assembled by Katy Scudieri and features my print 'Night Perspective'. I love all of the grays and angles in this!

may:30 We went to the KC Hot Air Balloon Invitational, but this was the extent of the excitement. They started putting up their balloons, then had to take them back down due to lighting.

may: 12 We joined the Rolling Prairie Farmers Alliance to fill our produce needs, and this was our first bag! We got some bok choy, honey, oyster mushrooms, pea shoots, salad greens, and spinach. Can't wait for next week!

may:11 My baking frenzy continues with these whole wheat hamburger buns. They turned out smaller than I thought they would, so they'll be slider buns!

may:10 Have I mentioned how much I love Spring? Better get out there and enjoy it before it turns to a hot and humid summer! Our Springs aren't very long in KC!

Slow Food KC Farm Tour

Saturday was sunny, breezy (slightly cool), and perfect to check out the Miami County, KS farm tour sponsored by Slow Food KC! It was a fun time! Here are a few things we did...

This is Prothe's Pecans, they had acres and acres of pecans! We've never eaten a pecan fresh off of the tree, much better than grocery store ones! There are also many different varieties, which I wasn't aware of...I thought a pecan was a pecan!

Next, we went to Alpacas 'R Diamonds and had a lot of laughs with these guys! (This is a llama, below are alpacas.)

She is spinning the alpaca fur into yarn. It's sooooo soft!

They were such hams for the camera! It actually looks like they are smiling! Of course, they were your best friend if you had alpaca food in your hand!

Our last stop was at Somerset Ridge Winery. They have a very small operation, but the wine was very tasty!
